Son of Walter and Mary Jones, of Hasting, Sussex, husband of Francis Amy Jones, of 528 Alexandra Park Road, Wood Green London. Lieutenant Jones received his commission in July 1915 and served in France from August 1915.
‘During the training at Lillers a most gallant action was performed by Lieutenant H. Jones. While practicing throwing live bombs one of the men dropped a bomb with the fuse burning. At great risk Lieutenant Jones picked up the bomb and threw it in a trench where it at once exploded. He bravery undoubtedly saved lives.’
In March 1918 he joined Acting Adjutant Command. He was later killed, accidently, whilst at Bombing School in Aldershot on 15 May 1918. He was 42, Lieutenant Jones was mentioned in Army orders on 19th November 1915 and in the Somme Despatches, 1916.
