Private Arthur Claxton was born in Salford and had previously served four years with the 8^th Bn Lancashire Fusiliers, before enlisting into the King’s Own on the 18^th August 1914. He was posted to the 6^th Bn and landed in France on the 26^th January 1915, In May 1915 he was wounded with a gunshot wound to the face and returned to the UK  in June 1915.

Recovering he re-joined his regiment in August 1915. He later served with the Labour Corps and was discharged with the award of the silver War Badge on the 31^st January 1919.
