British War Medal, (225113 Pte. T. Triplett E. York. R.). 225113 Private T. Triplett, East Yorkshire Regiment
Thomas Triplett originally joined the 5th Cyclists Battalion Number 796 in May 1913. He was re- numbered as 225113 and joined the 17th division infantry brigade depot on 22 July 1917. He then joined the 7th Battalion East York`s on 10th April 1918. Pte Thomas Triplett died of wounds on the 13th August 1918 age 26. The battalion diary for that day states that one carrying party had to move forward during daylight under the observation and machine gun fire of the enemy owing to the late arrival of the transport in doing this they sustained a casualty. As this was the only casualty on the 13th of August it is fair to assume this was Thomas Triplett. On the other hand, the battalion was bombed by enemy aircraft in the early evening of the 12th August 1918 as the battalion were moving across open country in artillery formation south east of Proyart, so it could be that Thomas was wounded on the 12th and died of his wounds in the clearing station at Daours, They used the local Daours Communal Cemetery Extension for the burial of their dead. Born Sculcoats Hull.
