Charles was a miner born in Sedgefield Durham and enlisted 16.7.1894 age 20 years, 3 months served Singapore October 1895 to December 1896, the occupation of Crete. Sudan medal and clasp confirmed, also served in the Boer War Q.S.A. and 4 clasps and a K.S.A. He was discharged 15.7.1916 having survived 12 years.
