London Gazette 1 January 1917 (France).Henry John Burridge was born in the Parish of St Cuthbert’s, Wells, Somerset, and enlisted into the Royal Engineers at Wells on 9 April 1885, aged 20 years 3 months, a carpenter and joiner by trade. He was appointed Lance-Corporal in November 1886; promoted 2nd Corporal, August 1888; Corporal, October 1889; Sergeant, November 1892; Mechanist (Coxswain) Staff Sergeant, September 1901. Served overseas, Halifax N.S., 11-22 May 1886; Ceylon, 1888-92. L.S. & G.C. 5.8.03. Discharged 8.4.1916 having served 21 years. Re-enlisted 9.11.1914, discharged 2.6.1919 after 4 years, W.O. Class 1. Married Miss Emily Cook 18.8.1895. Note; on his 1914 enlistment papers he states by mistake born in ‘Trinity Weymouth’ his trade was boatbuilder.
