William enlisted in the 62nd Regiment in London 12.9.1843 and served with them in India at the battle of Ferozeshur and Sobraon, the regiment suffered the worst casualties at Ferozeshur being 299 officers and men killed or wounded. Transferring to the 32nd Foot he is confirmed as present at Mooltan where the regiment suffered 134 killed or wounded.  Private William Alland was killed in action 30.6.1857 at the Chinhuit serving with the 32nd Foot Indian Mutiny Medal and clasp Defence of Lucknow.
