China War Medal 1840-1842. Captain P. Bedingfield, 37th Madras Native Infantry GVF
Phillip Bedingfield Captain 37th Madras Native Infantry was born in 1803 in Ditchingham. Mentioned in Major Pratts despatches in 1841 for actions during the capture of the forts and batteries at Chuenpee point. ‘I had previously ordered two companies of the 37th Native Infantry under the Captains Bedingfield and Wardroper to scout around a hill to the right of the advance, where they encountered the Chinese in some force and drove them away with much loss. Captain Duff commanding the Corps speaks highly of the conduct of these companies. Invalided 4.4.1843, he retired as a Major 5.2.1846.
