Edward was born in Kilbarron, Ballyshanon, Co. Donegal. He enlisted age 20 at Cliffony 6.9.1860, stating his trade as a servant and was paid a bounty of two pounds. Served with the 19th for 10 years, 295 days. He transferred to the 109th 1.8. 1871 (2nd battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers) transferred in 1876 to the 59th (2nd Notts) For the campaign of 3rd to 22nd October 1868. by Major General A.T. Wilde C.B. against the Bazotte Black Mountain tribes.
