William Augustus Burnett was born in Sealcote, India on 8.2.48, the second son of Major General F.C. Burnett, Bengal Artillery of Ayreshire. He joined the 1st 19th Foot on 5.6.66 without purchase. He served on the Northwest Frontier of India in the Hazara 1868 campaign expedition against the hill tribes in the Black Mountain country. Promoted to Lieutenant in the 2nd battalion 19th Foot 21.9.69. Saw service as a combatant officer for 15 years, 310 days, served in Egypt, Nile expedition 1884-85 (medal and clasp). Served as a Paymaster for approximately 16 years where he reached the rank of Staff Paymaster (Hon. Lt. Col.) 16.7.97 A.P.D. Died at Springfield, Mannamead, Plymouth 29.12.1897. Confirmed on the roll.
