Description

Sold with an original letter of attorney dated 23.04.1879 signed by Surgeon Major A. M. Beveridge, making solicitors Vesey W Holt & Co of 17 Whitehall Place, London his power of attorney. The document is in excellent condition.

Alexander Watt Beveridge was born at Inzievar, Fifeshire, on 4 June 1835. He was appointed Assistant Surgeon on the medical staff on 15 September 1857, and to the 78th Highlanders in November 1857. He served with the 78th Highlanders during the Indian Mutiny of 1857-58 and served with Outrams force in the Alumbagh, including the task of repulsing numerous attacks, and operations ending in the final capture of Lucknow. With an appointment to the staff and to the Royal Artillery in the time being, he returned to the 78th Highlanders as Surgeon in February 1872, and retired in March 1879, He died at Edinburgh on 9 April 1916.
