Died of wounds 25TH March 1918. age 29. The 7th Batt war diaries State he was killed during the German offensive whilst moving forward to Bouzincourt. The war diaries state that the casualties that were suffered between 21st and the 31st of March were as follows. Officers: 19, Other ranks: 400 the action in which John was killed is also documented on pages 274 to 277 of The East Yorkshires in the Great War by Everard Wyrall. Sergeant H. Jackson of the 7th Battalion won a Victoria Cross in this action”.
