Born Sheffield and enlisted 13.2.1885 age 18 years 1 month. Transferred to the Army Reserve 14.12.1892. Recalled 12.2.1897, served in India, medal and 2 clasps. Recalled for army service 7.3.1900 served in South Africa 17.3.1900 to 5.1.1901. Sold with copy page ‘Sheffield at the Front’ showing Bandsman John Boardman, No. 1566 states served under General White in the Zob expedition, 1890.
Note the number is 1566 but 1556 on the medal.
