Description
Able Seaman Fred Nicholson, of the Nepthis, of Liverpool was awarded the Board of Trade Gallantry Medal in Bronze and The Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society Bronze Medal for his service in the rescue effected upon the Wreck of the ‘Great Victoria’ on the 30th January 1891. Rescue in heavy sea, at much risk, of the iron sailing vessel Great Victoria, of Liverpool which was abandoned in the Bay of Biscay. The whole of the men on board of the Great Victoria were taken off in six trips, which occupied five hours. The boats crew were Nash, Graham, Green, Nicholson and Dyer. Two silver and four bronze medals were awarded for this action.
