Waterloo Medal 1815 With original steel clip and ring suspension. John Hughes, 51st Regiment
John Hughes was born at Monmouth and enlisted into the 51st Foot at Bristol on 1 April 1813, for life, aged twenty-four, a sail-maker by trade. He was discharged at Corfu on 23 November 1824, in consequence of a severe affection of the chest contracted in Corfu in 1822 His total service amounted to just 5 years 275 days, including 2 years for Waterloo, having been reduced by 7 years 329 days for desertion although his later conduct was described as good. Sold with copied discharge papers and medal rolls.
