French medal of honour with swords silver -gilt only 196 medals gazetted to the British army 29th January 1919.  

He attested for the Army Service Corps at York, and served during the Great War on the Western Front from 10 August 1914, and subsequently as a Staff Sergeant-Major on the Quartermaster-General’s Staff. He was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in the 1926 Birthday Honours’ List, and was commissioned Lieutenant (Quartermaster) in the Royal Army Service Corps on 14 January 1931. He was advanced Lieutenant-Colonel in 1943, and retired on 12 March 1947, being granted the honorary rank of Colonel, the first Quartermaster of the Royal Army Service Corps to be so honoured. Housed in a nice frame.
