Description

D.C.M. London Gazette 3 October 1918:
‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He set a magnificent example, inspiring the men with him to hold on at all costs though both flanks had gone, and to keep on shooting down the enemy. One night he led a patrol which encountered an enemy patrol, whom they dispersed, killing eight and taking four prisoners.’ Annotated Gazette states: ‘Neuve Eglise, 12-18 April 1918.’
